KINGSPORT, TN – REV. ROGER HERRON – AGE 68
Rev. Roger Herron 68 of Kingsport, TN passed away from his earthly body to his glorified body that he had preached and ministered about for over 40 years. He was born in Pennington Gap, VA on March 29, 1957 to the late Alvin Herron and Ruby Garrett Herron. He overcame many obstacles growing up with his health. He graduated from Pennington High School in 1977. In August of 1985, he met his future wife and now his wife of 39 years at a Homecoming Service at First Free Will Baptist of Pennington. They were married March 1st of 1986. They lived in Dryden, VA, the first 2 years they were married, he worked at Meyers Lumber. In 1988 they moved to Kingsport, and he started working for Paty Lumber company until Builders First Source bought Paty Lumber out. Together they had two children they welcomed into the world in 1989 and 1993. He was diagnosed with Colon Cancer in 2011 and by the grace of God he saw fit for him to be with his family for 14 more years. He was Assistant Pastor of Liberty Free Will Baptist in Dryden, VA in his early years of being a minister. He left the Assistant Pastor position at Liberty in 1988 to focus on ministering to other churches and other people. In the 1990s he then started pastoring Clinchport Free Will Baptist Church until 2001. In 2003 he accepted the Pastor position at Hills Chapel Free Will Baptist Church and was there until 2011. After leaving Hills Chapel he then again focused on his ministry until he accepted the Pastoral position at Bishop Memorial Free Will Baptist Church. He was the pastor of Bishop Memorial until his death. He enjoyed trap shooting, fishing and spending time with his family. Most importantly he enjoyed feeding God’s Sheep. He will be missed dearly.
